Well gee sure does look like a sweeping negative generalization of a specific group of people. But it’s not bigoted because this group doesn’t have to put up with racism and sexism, right?
It’s this fucking attitude that makes me so angry at tumblr. So many SJA’s go on and on and on about how they’re not racist or sexist or anything of the sort but then they’ll turn right around and be bigoted about white, cis, straight, etc people, and feel completely justified because they’re being bigoted towards people who are generally not going to be affected by it. Not only is it blatantly hypocritical, it’s also racist/sexist to everyone who isn’t a “white, cis male”.
If you claim that white people cannot be the target of racism, if you claim cis males can’t be the target of sexism, you are inadvertantly agreeing that “white, straight, and cis male” is the ‘norm’ and everything else is a deviation of that. Saying a white person cannot be the target of racism is saying white is the norm for people and everyone who isn’t this “norm” are different; that any other white person is “normal” and anyone not white is just a derivation of that.
Do you realize how disgusting a concept that is? In saying any group is incapable of being the target of bigotry you are being bigoted to that group and every other group as well.
Of course I’m not saying that everyone is affected by racism equally. On the contrary, white, straight, cis males are almost never actually affected by racism due to the current institution and its favoring white males. But just because they are never affected by it doesn’t mean they can’t be the target of it.
White is just as much of a race as is black. Male is just as much of a sex as female. White, straight, and male aren’t the baselines of a human, they’re features that are just as valid as every other feature.

seriously, guys! what about the men!? what about the straight white guys!? WHAT ABOUT TEH MENZ?

do you think generalizations made after having to endure two hours of rape jokes aren’t rational? there are dozens, maybe even hundreds of funny straight white guys. but at this moment in time, where straight white males think it would be funny to describe how they like to rape women, cis straight white males aren’t so funny.

oh, and also: racism does not happen against white people, mmmkay?
